DEAR Editor,-
Ugu claims there is a drought, which is fair, considering the problems we’ve been having.
However, with the amount of rain over these past few months, I find it hard to believe that dams did not fill at all.

The local dam, namely ‘Nothard’s Dam’, has seen a big increase since the rains began.
Local farmers have even created mini-dams on their properties, allowing them to collect water.
If these dams can somehow collect water, why is Ugu unable to collect water after such an abundance of rain?
The no water excuse has become really old. People have been suffering for months, with no end in sight.
I’m fortunate enough to have a borehole, unlike my employees, who are suffering.
Not many can afford R110 000 to drill a borehole in these trying times. I’ve resorted to supplying staff with water from the company borehole, at my own cost – it’s unbelievable.
Local supervisor Mduduzi Makhaye claims that the catchment areas are in the wrong places. Fair enough, that may be the case.
However, that’s been the story since the drought began in 2014.
How could you not plan ahead for the past five years boggles the mind.
Weza Dam is full according to locals, yet Harding sits without water.
Where is that water going? Who is it going to?
The reservoir, situated conveniently close to Mr Makhaye’s home, somehow has a continuous leak and potable waters runs unabated down Hancock Street.
But nothing is done about this and Harding remains dry. Locals complain that Mr Makhaye is unapproachable, so – how does he performs his duties?

There are no static tanks in place and trying to complain to Ugu is a huge job.
When applying to join the official Ugu complaints social media group, I was rejected and am blocked from viewing updates.
Could administrator Sphelele Cele please provide a reason why residents are being blocked from submitting queries or joining.
Or is she just afraid of facing the heat, deciding to become ‘big brother’ herself. If one cannot contact them via landlines, emails or social media, how are residents supposed to get answers?
Are we not entitled to know what’s going on? Ms Cele just posts small snippets – that’s all we get.
Nobody cares about the Harding community, including Ugu.
Can DD Naidoo or someone in charge provide answers?
What are the short, medium and long term goals? It’s ironic being deprived of basic human rights and dignity during ‘Human Rights’ month.
It would be great to get some answers for a change. Businesses and residents are suffering.
We need to save the Harding community from being destroyed by incompetent service delivery.
Most businesses face closure, but somehow slog on.
Sadly, I’ve decided to relocate to the UK due to the incompetence of the government. One can only take so much.
FRUSTRATED RESIDENT
