Dear Editor,
As a regular paddler on the Umzimkhulu River in Port Shepstone, I was utterly disgusted to see high-powered speed boats and jet-skiers ignoring the no-wake zone and speeding right up the river.

Their actions show no consideration for the wildlife like the turtles that venture upstream, the birds, and those humans who quietly enjoy the river and the natural surroundings.
These selfish individuals scream up and down the river disturbing the wildlife and making it a nightmare for the rest of us using the river.
The sign indicating the ‘no wake zone’ appears to have fallen off and needs to be re-erected – but this time, big, bold signs need to beerected on both sides of the river.

I call on Ray Nkonyeni Municipality or the conservancies to make it their mission this year to erect these signs and enforce the ‘no wake’ zone rules on the river.
PEACE
