I was lucky enough to personally witness the much talked about white winged butterfly, also known as the pioneer caper whites, fly past my home in the Umzinto area over this past weekend.

These are the butterflies which left a lot of Johannesburg residents in awe over the past week during their annual migration as they flew around the area in unaccountable numbers.
Pictures and videos of this went viral and I enjoyed watching it online, but it was much more exciting to see them myself this Saturday fly past my home.
I sat there on my balcony for almost an hour enjoying this rare sight as swarms of white butterflies beautified the area. It was definitely a delightful sight.
Unfortunately due the amount of light, the poor quality of my phone camera, as well as the fact that they were not passing close enough to my balcony, I was unable to get a good picture to share, but there are still a few little groups of these butterflies which can be seen flying around the Umzinto and Park Rynie area.
If you keep your eye out for these white winged creatures, you might still be lucky enough to glimpse these magnificent creatures flying around and even capture a few – with a camera.
