OPINION: ‘It is time to cut my losses and move on’

I have decided to leave the country as soon as I can successfully sell my house.

DEAR Editor,-

Uvongo has been without water for days and cutting the water supply in these temperatures is a crime.

We cannot properly wash vegetables or take care of personal hygiene.

It is easy to understand that serious pathology is becoming a concrete possibility – there is also a potential pandemic that might involve South Africa in the next weeks.

Nobody advised us of the water supply interruption and all attempts to get in touch with Ugu District Municipality failed.

They keep people hanging on the line for several minutes and nobody answers.

I do reserve the right to individually sue the responsible personnel of the water department for attempted hazards to public health and disruption of public service.

I am a foreigner who decided to come to South Africa because I loved the country.

When I came here several years ago, it was like Switzerland – clean and and properly maintained.

Since it has become a disaster, I have decided to leave the country as soon as I can sell my house.

South Coast does not deserve to have benefits from the money I spend here. I will also ensure that all my foreign friends are told not to come here – for a vacation or to live.

This is nothing against the South Coast population – they are also victims.

Action needs to be taken towards administrators who have salaries paid by taxpayers and are not in condition to do their jobs.
