OPINION: ‘Harding water ‘hell’ – when will it end?’

We have been declared a disaster area, but the government has failed to make provisions for struggling people, especially the disabled, vulnerable and elderly.

I write this letter with a sore heart. The water situation in Harding has gone from terrible to disastrous.

We have been declared a disaster area, but the government has failed to make provisions for struggling people, especially the disabled, vulnerable and elderly.

There is no water coming out of our taps, and we have been reduced to fetching water from people who are generous enough to give us some from their boreholes.

The static tanks and water tankers given by Ugu are a joke as it’s never enough for the suffering people.

People without vehicles are suffering the most because they have to rely on people to take them to collect water or pay for vehicles to do so, many on a daily basis.

Ugu ignores our pleas, and tells us the only thing we can do is be patient.

Are there even plans to help the struggling people?

Our meters are being read and we are being invoiced for water even when our taps have been dry for a year.

When will this hell end?
