OPINION: Looking ahead to the new year

May we remember those we have lost along the way and may we all be more resilient as we anticipate the arrival of 2022.

DEAR Editor;

Hopefully this letter finds readers hale and hearty, especially with the festive season in full swing.

How exciting it has been to see lots of holidaymakers flock to our beautiful South Coast, especially after the doom and gloom that Covid-19 has left us with over the last two years.

Funny to think that some months ago, many of us thought we would be done with this pandemic by now.

Needless to say we were wrong and we have instead had to readjust our way of living to accommodate this virus.

While I’m sure we are all grateful to be able to spend time with loved ones unlike the previous year, let us be responsible.

I have already seen plenty disregard the need to follow Covid-19 protocols in public areas and if our statistics are at all accurate, a steady rise in infection is evident.

As the year draws to an end, reflection is not uncommon. Therefore I think we all deserve a pat on the back for overcoming each and every challenge we faced this year, as well as taking some time to celebrate our victories too.

May we remember those we have lost along the way and may we all be more resilient as we anticipate the arrival of 2022.
