OPINION: ‘Déjà vu rainfall figures’

Only 55mm was recorded in Scottburgh.

DEAR Editor;

While January is normally a dry, hot month, the rainfall recorded this January was less than half of last year’s January figure.

Only 55mm was recorded in Scottburgh.

Amazingly though, last Friday, the exact same amount of rain fell in just one day as fell in the entire previous month!

The rainfall figures that were recorded in Scottburgh during January were as follows: 4th – 5,5mm; 5th – 1,5mm; 6th – 3,5mm; 7th – 16mm; 10th – 2,5mm; 13th – 4mm; 19th – 10mm; 22nd – 2mm; 26th – 1,5mm; 28th – 6mm; 30th – 2,5mm.

The total rainfall for January was a meagre 55mm compared to the 55mm that fell last Friday.

The rainfall recorded in January over the last five years in Scottburgh was: 2021 – 124mm; 2020 – 54mm; 2019 – 85,5mm; 2018 – 74mm; 2017 – 57mm.
