OPINION: Time to take responsibility, please

"Nobody knows, it seems, and if somebody does know they are not telling."

It was a sort of in-house joke in the geology fraternity in Namibia many years back, that, by the nature of their work, that being producing coloured-in diagrams and maps, that geologists were given colour pencil sharpening lessons at university.

Only a joke you understand, before I have a geological hammer tool launched at my head.
Well, I feel that members of political associations and municipalities attend special courses that educate them in an important aspects of their jobs.

The course teaches how to deny personal involvement in/with nor any prior/present knowledge of any situation that requires someone to stand tall and take the responsibility of saying it was me/us.

ALSO READ: OPINION: South Africa doesn’t need to be in this mess

It is usually a case of it wasn’t me/us and it was due to so many unforeseen challenges. To expand on this, the beaches in Durban are needing to be sewage free by December (same as the coast), prior to the influx of holiday makers. Yes, people on vacation spend money.

Durban needs the money so welcome the patrons, please. However the sewage plants are still derelict, apparently since the floods last year.

Why? Nobody knows, it seems, and if somebody does know they are not telling.
But, I would not worry too much about the influx of the visitors, as the price of fuel will deter and prevent many people from coming down.

Maybe it will become a ‘Garden Route’ holiday whereby one stays home and enjoys one’s own garden instead.
Also, adding to the petrol price headache, remember these visitors may need to bring drinking water down with them, because the municipal supply is not being supplied.

So, take you pick as to which impedance it will be.
