As the year has come to an end, I really feel a special thanks needs to be extended to the individuals who tirelessly make a positive difference to the coast.
The Tidy Towns movement is growing, and already the coast has: Tidy Towns Shelly Beach to Margate, Tweni Tidy Towns and Tidy Towns Sea Park to Banana Beach, Tidy Towns Glenmore Beach and Leisure Bay and Tidy Towns Pennington – and the list goes on.
Gratitude should also go to the businesses who support the Tidy Town projects and initiatives.
A further thanks should also go to those who support and are involved in the conservancies, ratepayers and residents associations and other pro-active groups who care deeply for environment and well-being the South Coast.
Take a bow – all the voluntarily hard work on the ground is paying off.
Where would the South Coast be without you? We are blessed and lucky to have individuals who care so much for our coast.
While other cities and towns are currently facing major problems which is crippling their tourism sector, South Coasters have rallied together and paved the way forward.
I was recently walking along Lilliecrona Boulevard and met Eliot Hlophe from Tidy Towns Shelly Beach to Margate who was painting the kerb, while proudly wearing his Tidy Town hat and T-shirt.
Eliot’s friendly and happy face was so refreshing – a beacon of hope – that if we work together as a collective – we can achieve so much more!
This is just one of the small but many changes Tidy Towns and others have made to the coastline. A stretch of coast that mainly relies on tourism to thrive.
As we get ready to tackle 2024, I encourage all South Coast residents to make tidy, even if it means keeping your verge clean and neat.
Let’s all join hands and support the Tidy Towns movement and be proud of our coastline, suburbs and beaches.
DO IT
