BRONWYN TANNER: Tuning In – New organisation provides hope for seniors

Community news and events for the mid-South Coast area.

One week to go and schools go back. Also, a few more days to go to pay day!

An organisation, HOPE has been established in Pennington. HOPE stands for Help Our Pennington Elderly. They believe that together, they can make a difference to those in need.

HOPE is a group of volunteers who give their time in helping the less-able elderly residents of Pennington. While there are limits to what they can and cannot do, their aim is to make many of those otherwise-simple things in life a lot less arduous for the elderly in need.

The services that they offer include shopping for essential items or providing a lift to the local shops; assisting with getting around Pennington, to visit friends without transport, or perhaps a trip to the library; collecting pharmaceuticals; providing some occasional company, for a chat and a cup of tea; organise social gatherings; help with some physically demanding tasks; be there for emergencies and support when needed; take a short trip to the beach, if only to take in the breathtaking views and fresh air; completion of forms; printing and emailing and setting up phones for WhatsApp, etc.

Unfortunately, they are not trained carers, so they can’t offer such services although they might be able to find a carer for those with the budget. For more information contact Audrey Norman on 060 7686264.
