OPINION: Please return missing Oribi Commando memorabilia

Laurence is prepared to give each member/person who returns an item a signed copy of the History of Oribi Commando as published by Group 7 publishers.

I refer to previous letters and pleas to ex-members and interested parties of Oribi Commando for the return to me (ex officer commanding) of the items of memorabilia that they may have in their possession.

Sadly, not one person has responded to the plea.

It is also sad because the missing items are lost to all while in someone’s private possession.

The intention is for these items to be deposited at the Pro-Patria Military museum under Oribi Commando’s name and be on display for the present and generations to come, where ex-members and family of ex-members and friends of Oribi Commando will be able to see and enjoy the legacy left by the commando and those who served in it.

I am making one last plea to the ex-members and/or interested persons who have these items in their possession to please return them to me.

I am prepared to give each member/person who returns an item a signed copy of the History of Oribi Commando as published by Group 7 publishers.

The missing items include: The Oribi flag, the national colour, General Blacks’s uniform and medals, a set of German WW2 military caps, WW2 steel helmets; SADF shoulder flash display, ‘Skiet Piet’ bronze statuette, painting of Oribi buck; various unit commemorative shields, commemorative pennants; Oribi Commando sign, photographs and memos.

I can be contacted via the Friends of Oribi Facebook page, or on 073 9544450 or email unicornnlpconsulting@gmail.com.

Greetings from one old soldier to another.
