Sinkhole in Anerley poses danger

Feedback from the municipality is awaited.

During the heavy rains that the area experienced some two weeks ago, a sinkhole developed in Goodlands Road, Anerley, just before the junction of Park Road.

As can be seen in the attached photograph, it is not the biggest or deepest that we have had in this part of the world, but it is certainly dangerous enough, especially as the area is not illuminated by a street light.

The branch in the photo is not growing, but has been placed there as a relatively ineffective warning to traffic.

A cyclist or motor cyclist would suffer serious injuries if he/she were to ride into the hole and the suspension and wheel of a vehicle would be irreparably damaged.

I sent an e-mail to the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality municipal manager on Wednesday, May 7 informing him of this, but to date (May 11) no remedial action has been taken.
