Ugu SAPS bids farewell to members

All three members will be missed around the office and colleagues are holding their breath to see who will be equally suited to fill their vacant positions.

Police in the Ugu District have bid farewell to three of their members who recently retired.

From SAPS Port Shepstone, Colonel Andries Pieter Lombard, will be released from service at the end of March 2023 after 41 years of faithful service.
Lombard served as the Support Commander for the last 30 years.
Port Shepstone SAPS spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge said Lombard joined the organisation in 1982 and progressed through the ranks while serving in various environments such as Supply Chain Management and at VISPOL.
Mpinge added that Lombard served at Mondeor, Southport and Scottburgh police stations where made great memories and strong friendships.
“Colonel Lombard was generous in sharing his expertise and skill with colleagues and management,” said Mpinge.

Mpinge added that Warrant Officer William Albert Carthew of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) in Port Shepstone also retired in March after 34 years in the organisation, saying that he was employed as a forensic crime scene investigator.
Mpinge explained that Carthew began his policing career at SAPS Margate in 1989 and moved over to LCRC where he served for 27 years.
“His line of work included photographing and processing crime scenes which were used with great success in achieving appropriate convictions and sentences. Warrant Officer Carthew also represented the SAPS National Team for fishing in 2008 and 2010,” said Mpinge.

Also, Mpinge said Warrant Officer Musawakhe Mthembu of Hibberdene SAPS who is also retiring, was appointed in 1990 and served in the VISPOL environment at Durban South, Empangeni, Richards Bay and Port Shepstone.
“He leaves SAPS Hibberdene with fond memories and a wealth of experience. All three members will be missed around the office and colleagues are holding their breath to see who will be equally suited to fill their vacant positions,” said Mpinge.
