Ugu buys vehicles worth R10 million
Ugu acting mayor, Mandla Chiya said the new vehicles will address the lack of resources needed to fast-track service delivery in the district.
Ugu District Municipality recently purchased vehicles valued at R10 million.
The municipality also received two water tankers worth R4 million from the KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta).
This was revealed recently by Ugu acting mayor, Mandla Chiya, after he launched the municipality’s new fleet at the Ugu Disaster Management Centre.

The new vehicles include two VTS trucks, seven light vehicles, five 4×2 bakkies, and two water tankers from Cogta.
Chiya said the new vehicles are an investment in the community.
“As it is meant to ensure that we deliver better services, the vehicles will help assist our plumbers to respond to burst pipes, water leaks and sabotage incidents. The water tankers were bought by Cogta for the municipality,” said Chiya, adding that they will help in distributing water to communities when there are outages due to loadshedding.
The water-troubled district municipality has previously said that it has been facing challenges such as ageing infrastructure, leaks, non-payment of water bills, and more.
At a recent Water and Sanitation Indaba hosted by Ugu, Chiya said a number of the municipality’s vehicles were set alight during the nationwide unrest in July 2021 at the Ugu Fresh Produce Market.
Chiya said the new vehicles will address the lack of resources needed to fast-track service delivery in the district.
