Temple observes Murthi Sthapna ceremony

The installation ceremony generally has two names, Murthi Sthapna or Prana Pratishta.

Devotees at the Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society in Marburg participated in a two-day prayer, last weekend, where sacred murthis were formally installed at the temple.

The installation ceremony generally has two names, Murthi Sthapna or Prana Pratishta.
Singh Samsunder of the Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society explained that the word ‘murthi’ means a sacred image and ‘sthapna’ means placing.

“Such ceremonies are generally elaborate and may continue for days,” said Singh.
He emphasised that the ceremony included offering milk, water, rice, and flowers onto the sacred murthis.

A hawan and various poojas also take place.
“The culmination of such a ceremony is when the ‘eyes’ of the murthis are actually opened,” said Singh.
