Regional hospital’s manager receives national award
The assistant nursing manager, Matron Linda Manipersad, said it is a privilege to work with a nurse of this caliber, who is so involved and takes her work to heart.
The operational manager at the Thuthuzela Care Centre at the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital, Duduzile Ndlovu, recently received the Chairperson’s Discretion Award during a gala dinner hosted by the South African Nursing Council.
According to the hospital’s public relations officer, Phumza Morai, the council is a professional body for nursing and midwifery in South Africa.
Morai said the council made a call for provinces to nominate the best nurses in different categories who go the extra mile when providing services and care to patients.
She added that Ndlovu was among the nominees.
“At the recent event held in Gauteng, Sister Ndlovu was awarded the Chairperson’s Discretion Award. This is her 13th award. Her other awards include the Florence Nightingale Award (Best caring nurse in Kwazulu-Natal), the Department of Public Service and Administration recognised her with two awards, Frontline Service Delivery Employee of the Year, and Lifetime Achievement Award,” said Morai.
She added that the deputy nursing manager, Mandisa Maqutu, together with the Medical manager, Busi Dlamini, congratulated Sister Ndlovu for her achievement and said it takes a lot of hard work and dedication for one to be recognised with such an award.
Also, the assistant nursing manager, Matron Linda Manipersad, said it is a privilege to work with a nurse of this calibre, who is so involved and takes her work to heart.
“Even neglecting her family at times to ensure the community at large is empowered on gender-based violence and sexual assault,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ndlovu said she would not be where she is if it was not for the support she received from hospital management and her staff.
