Local designers to showcase for Durban July
Judges will be looking for garments and an overall look that is on trend and well-executed, with an emphasis on being beautifully dressed for a day at the races.
A total of 16 aspiring fashion designers from Esayidi Fashion School will soon present their completed work to a panel of judges at this year’s Holywoodbets Durban July Young Designer Award.
According to the founder of Esayidi Fashion School, Zamabhele Ntshangase, the show will showcase the very best young and emerging talent.
She said judges will be looking for garments and an overall look that is on trend and well-executed, with an emphasis on being beautifully dressed for a day at the races.
She added that entrants had to be currently studying fashion and living within KZN borders.
With the race day theme being ‘Out of This World’, Esayidi Fashion School students are following, reflecting, and interpreting the content of the theme through research, conceptualisation, pattern making, construction, and storyboard.
“Esayidi Fashion School provides exciting programmes that cover a vast area in fashion such as textile design, pattern technology, and garment construction.
Esayidi Fashion School is currently conducting a master class for the Hollywood Bets Durban July Young Designers Award competition. The master class is compulsory for every student to participate in as it gives them a platform to harness their skills and be informed of what is happening within our industry. This competition draws entries from Durban, Pietermaritzburg, and surrounding areas in KwaZulu-Natal. It is planned that the winner will be announced at Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event, the Hollywoodbets Durban July, on Saturday, July 1, 2023,” she said.
Also, Ntshangase stressed to Esayidi Fashion School students that their work should focus on the sophistication of the event and avoid the temptation of producing extravagant avant-garde garments but mostly keeping it simple for a day at the races.
She added that as the school team, they wish all their students the best and hope that the experience will shape their careers and build their entrepreneurial skills as well as contribute to the local economy through job creation.
One of the Esayidi Fashion School students, Yiva Godo said: “I hope that this opportunity helps me grow tremendously, network, and build strong relationships with industry experts as well as unlock even bigger platforms.”
