Policeman’s killers sentenced to life imprisonment
The lifeless body of Warrant Officer Thulani Ngwabe who was stationed at Margate Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit was found on the railway lines near Port Shepstone Beach with multiple stab wounds.

The Scottburgh High Court sentenced Sithembiso Mbona (27), Saziso Khambule (27), and Nhlakanipho Ndovela (25) for the murder of Warrant Office Thulani Ngwabe on Tuesday last week.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Simphiwe Mhlongo, on November 3, 2019, the lifeless body of Warrant Officer Ngwabe who was stationed at Margate Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit was found on the railway lines near Port Shepstone Beach with multiple stab wounds.
Mhlongo said a case of murder was reported at Port Shepstone police station and the case docket was allocated to Hawks members from the Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime unit for intensive investigation.
“Hawks members left no stone unturned in their investigation and they first arrested his wife, Nonkululeko Ngwabe (48) in December 2019. Her arrest led to the apprehension of the accomplices she hired to kill her husband. They were arrested in the Murchison area near Port Shepstone. Members presented a well-investigated case docket before the court and the accused were denied bail. On June 7, 2021 Pietermaritzburg High Court convicted and sentenced Nonkululeko to 22 years imprisonment for the brutal murder of her husband. The three pleaded not guilty and their trial continued until they were found guilty on Thursday last week,” said Mhlongo, adding that Mbona and Khambule were sentenced to life imprisonment each, and Ndovela was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment.
He added that the court further denied them leave to appeal, saying that the KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Lesetja Senona applauded the investigation and prosecution team for the good work.
“Hawks members will make sure that police killers are brought to book and sentenced for a long time,” he said.
