Two women killed in Mthwalume

One was found mutilated and the other was shot dead.

Two women, one mutilated and the other shot were found dead in Mthwalume recently.

Pedestrians in Mthwalume made a grisly discovery when they found the body of 45-year-old Nobahle Ntshungu lying next to a river in the KwaQoloqolo area, in Mthwalume.

Police spokesperson, Captain Adam Francis, said a 48-year-old man has been arrested in this case.

“A 45-year-old woman was found dead by members of the community near the Qolokolo River. The deceased had been severely cut in the throat with a sharp object. The police arrested a 48-year-old suspect, he was charged and appeared at the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court recently,” said Francis.

Comment from the deceased’s sister, Khanyisile Ntshungu, had not been received at the time of going to press.
The ward councillor, Ayanda Duma, said he received the report while in a meeting, saying that the honest truth is that they don’t have an exact explanation yet.

“This is something that worries us in a strange way. Things like this seem to be increasing. I think that if law enforcement officers can hurry up and set up a camp for us, maybe it would be better because some who come for these things know that it is a long way for the police to arrive when they are called,” said Duma.

Meanwhile, Lindiwe Ngcobo was also shot dead two weeks ago in Cabhane in Mthwalume.
Police spokesperson, Francis, said a 47-year-old woman sustained fatal gunshot wounds at her home in Cabhane location.

“This happened when an unknown masked man entered the residence and began shooting. She died on the scene. A male also sustained several gunshot wounds and survived the shooting. No one has been arrested as yet,” he said.

Ngcobo’s sister who did not want to be named told Fever that her sister is survived by two children.

“All we want is justice. We want to know why that person killed her. We have never even heard that she was in a fight with someone, or heard that she felt like her life was in danger or being threatened, that is why we are confused,” she said.

The founder of Women of Mthwalume, Nombuso Sibisi said: “What is happening in Mthwalume is not pleasant only prayer is needed. The killing and molestation of women and children is something we wake up to every day. We are mothers, we fight against this crime and we will continue to fight. People do what they want because there is no law. For Ntsungu’s murder, we are grateful that the husband was arrested, we hope he will be sentenced soon,” she said.
