Inkundla Theatre Festival celebrates 10 years
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Arts and Culture manager, Thembi Khawula, said the objective was to redefine the role of the creative and cultural sector within Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
The Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Margate Art Museum recently returned with its popular annual Inkundla Theatre Festival at the Uvongo Town Hall last week.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Arts and Culture manager, Thembi Khawula, said the objective was to redefine the role of the creative and cultural sector within Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
She added that the aim was to also reflect on the creative economy and its critical role in promoting sustainable development, especially in the post-coronavirus world.
“With the Inkundla Theatre Festival this year, we wanted to ensure that we cater for all sectors of the arts industry in Ray Nkonyeni, more especially since it is Youth Month. We believe that after this programme, there is a lot of things young people will learn. It makes us proud to know that for the past 10 years we have been doing this festival and it has been growing,” she said.
She added that for this year’s edition, they started with a number of theatre acts and then later, there was a comedy show.
Khawula said as Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, it makes them happy to see how they have grown with the festival.
“What we want is to sustain the development of our emerging artists. We want to see them performing in national stages and programmes. We want to redefine their role in the arts sector,” said Khawula.
