Districts bag honours at mini netball world cup

Although no school from the Ugu District made it to the top three of the Netball Mini World Cup, other districts were awarded for their outstanding results.

KZN Netball recently worked in collaboration with the KZN Department of Sport, Arts and Culture in a competition for schools as one of the activities to promote the 2023 Netball World Cup that will take place in Cape Town from July 28.

Although no school from the Ugu District made it to the top three of the Netball Mini World Cup, the following districts were awarded for their outstanding results.

The King Cetshwayo District representing Fiji bagged first position, Umgungundlovu District representing South Africa obtained second position while the eThekwini District representing Scotland came third.
The Netball Mini World Cup was held recently at the Victoria Mxenge Indoor Sports Centre in Durban.

A creative arts competition was also part of the programme.
Learners from around the province in Grades 4 to 6 were targeted and required to draw a picture of the 2023 Netball World Cup lucky charm ‘Lestatsi’ which means the sun.

The top three learners who succeeded in the competition were Kayl Johns of Penzance Primary School under Umlazi District (third position), Sfundo Andile Mzima of Enqoleni Primary School under King Cetshwayo District (second position) and Mnelisi Magwaza of Imbewenhle Primary School under Ilembe District (first place).
