RDP houses for Umzumbe families
The Dlamini household in eVillage, Ward 10 and the Mlita home in Cabhane, Ward 14 were the first to be identified as beneficiaries of the RDP houses.
Umzumbe Municipality handed over two RDP houses to a family in Ward 10 and Ward 14 recently.
According to the municipality, it built two homes for the Mlita and Dlamini families whose living conditions were not good, saying that it was aiming to restore the dignity of these families.
“The Dlamini household in eVillage, Ward 10 and the Mlita home in Cabhane, Ward 14 were the first to be identified as beneficiaries of the Mandela Month Change Initiative. One of the beneficiaries, who is 62-years-old expressed her gratitude for the change the programme has brought to her life and her family. She said she was very emotional because she is no longer worried about being affected by floods and heavy rains,” said the municipality.
The mayor of Umzumbe Municipality, Bongani Nyuswa described the initiative as a way of life and as a way to change the lives of the community as the programme will go to to all wards.
“What we have done for the Dlamini and Mlita families is only the beginning because we are interested in taking it to all the wards. We do this as a reminder of the former first democratic president, Nelson Mandela. Mandela encouraged changing people’s lives for the better and restoring dignity where appropriate. We are proving this by building these homes and the wagon of development is not false and continues by building a better future,” said Nyuswa.
Meanwhile, the municipality said the initiative ended at Rosettenville Hall in Ward 14 where the young entrepreneurs were given tools to sustain their small businesses.
It added that the equipment included ice machines, baking machines, and block-making machines.
“Also, small businesses that passed with NQF 2 in tender courses were awarded on Friday, this happened under the South African National Roads Agency SOC Ltd (SANRAL) programme,” said the municipality.
