Supporters welcome MK party in Ugu
In under two months, former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has put down footprints in four provinces.
Several South Coasters who were previously thought to be affiliated with certain political parties were seen in full uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party regalia during a motorcade in the Ugu District last Sunday.
Traffic congestion as a result of the motorcade was at Confusion Junction in Port Shepstone, Gamalakhe and Marburg where the main event was held.
In under two months, former president Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party has put down footprints in four provinces.
MK hit the ground running after its launch in Soweto, Gauteng on December 16, 2023.
The party is controversially one of the most talked about developments in the run-up to the 2024 national government elections.
In the party’s bid to woo voters, it has held visibility campaigns in the Ugu District, Umlazi, KwaMashu, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Speaking to Fever on the sidelines, an ANC member employed at Ugu District Municipality told the publication that he was looking for an alternative to the ANC after the party dismissed over 100 workers in the municipality.
“The ANC refuses to hear our concerns. The cost of living is too high, it is high time we taught the leading party a valuable lesson by taking our votes from them. Former president Jacob Zuma has provided an alternative for disgruntled ANC members. The ANC has failed to consider the people who vote for them when it comes to making decisions that will affect their lives, now it is time we don’t consider the ANC when voting. Viva Mkhonto Wesizwe Viva,” he said.
uMkhonto Wesizwe interim spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said: “Everyone knows the ANC will not survive in KZN, there is no doubt about that – they must be ready to pack their bags. The party has its eyes on election victories in Gauteng, KZN and Mpumalanga, claiming the provinces have long been neglected. It is also hoping to make inroads in the DA-led Western Cape. We are going to surprise the DA in the Western Cape; we are quite confident about this. The people of Western Cape has been neglected for far too long,” said Ndlela, adding that if the party has the chance to form a coalition, it is willing to partner with ‘progressive parties’, not the DA or the ‘ANC of Ramaphosa’.
