Radio role for Boboyi’s Ngcebo

The South Coast’s Ngcebo Bhengu has joined one of KZN’s biggest radio stations as a personality.

This was revealed last week after Gagasi FM announced its line-up for the new season that started on April 1.

The 23-year-old will be hosting the Massive Weekend on Saturdays from 01:00 until 04:00.

Originally from Boboyi, Bhengu said his passion for radio started during his early high school days.
The former Marburg Secondary learner said he used to look up to radio giants such as Alex Mthiyane and Linda Sibiya, however, the person who inspired him most was another former Marburg learner, Nomalanga Shozi.

Although Gagasi FM only announced its new line-up last week, Bhengu said the commercial radio station approached him about the position at the beginning of March.

“When Nomalanga Shozi started working at Gagasi FM, I knew that even someone from a place as small as Boboyi could make it and be successful in the industry. In 2019, I joined Ugu Youth Radio where I trained on various shows. I learned a lot about the ins and outs of the radio world,” he said.

He explained that his relationship with Gagasi FM started in 2023 after he became a finalist in the Gagasi FM Rising Star Presenter Search.

He said although he did not win, he knew that God had bigger plans for him.
Bhengu said his show will be loved by all, describing it as an informative and interactive one which offers good music, loads of entertainment and spicy topics.

“What I love about the show is that it’s very inclusive whether you are at home, work, on the road, on your way from a club or a student, everyone will feel welcome. Gagasi FM is all about growing, believing and nurturing talent, hence, they called and offered me a spot, and now being part of it feels like a dream,” he said.

The final year drama and production studies student said joining the ‘G Family’ taught him that what is yours will never miss you, saying that if an opportunity is yours it will cross rivers, climb mountains and cross borders until it reaches you.

He urged South Coasters to support him on this journey by tuning into the show and interacting in the conversations.

“My biggest advice to anyone who would like to join the industry is to believe in yourself first, before anyone else. See purpose in yourself and your craft before anyone sees it, consistency is also key. Over the years, I sent 21 demos to various radio stations in South Africa and through consistency, hard work and dedication I landed where I am today,” he said.
