Nomalanga Shozi is awards’ black carpet host

Speaking about hosting the Metro FM Awards' black carpet event, Nomalanga Shozi said it was an exciting time to be young, gifted and black.

Boboyi-born media personality Nomalanga Shozi is returning to the 18th Metro FM Awards, but as a black carpet host this time around.

In 2023, Shozi was the main host of the music awards alongside DJ Sabby.

This year’s edition will take place at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga this Saturday, April 27. The awards will be hosted by Luthando ‘Lootlove’ Shosha and Tebogo Thekisho, well-known as ProVerb.

Shozi and DJ Sabby will bring the action to the Motsepe Foundation-sponsored black carpet event.

Speaking about the black carpet opportunity, the former Marburg Secondary learner said it was an exciting time to be young, gifted and black.

Shozi said she was humbled by the opportunity to live out another one of her dreams as a host of the Metro FM Awards.

“With my stage being the iconic black carpet and the fact that I get to do it with my favourite DJ Sabby makes this even sweeter. See you in Mbombela for my first Metro Music Awards rodeo. All praise and glory to God. Let’s rock,” she said.

Meanwhile, TV personality Lamiez Holworthy and 5FM presenter Zanele Potelwa will co-host the Green Room where they will interview category winners.

Metro FM’s business manager, Kina Nhlengethwa, said this year’s event takes place against the backdrop of 30 years of South Africa’s democracy, saying that the station is honouring this with the theme ‘Black To The Future’

“This is a celebration of the achievements and contributions of black artists in the music industry. South African music is thriving, attracting new audiences globally and inspiring black excellence. It is only fitting that this year’s theme be carried by some of the industry’s best presenters, who bring a wealth of knowledge on diverse facets of the SA arts and entertainment scene,” said Nhlengethwa.
