Murder-accused abandons bail bid

At the time of the incident, the 34-year-old allegedly took the two-year-old from her aunt saying that they were going to the neighbours' house.

The man accused of killing two-year-old Lumingaye Mthethwa abandoned his bail application at the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on Monday last week.

Siyabonga Ndlovu, who was dating Lumingaye’s mother, is facing charges of kidnapping and murder.

The 34-year-old allegedly took the two-year-old from her aunt, saying that they were going to a neighbour’s house.

The case was remanded for May 17.

Meanwhile, the non-profit organisation Women Of Mtwalume (WOM) is against Ndlovu applying for or receiving bail.

The organisation protested outside the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

The chairperson of WOM, Nombuso Sibisi, said it was important for mothers to know that their children are more important than the relationships they are in.

“Lumingaye’s mother had previously opened a case against Ndlovu for hitting her. That alone was a sign of the type of man he is. I wish women could put themselves first and leave abusive relationships. We hope justice will be served so that the little one can rest in peace,” she said.
