Police confiscate illegal firearms

Three 9mm firearms, one shotgun and one rifle were recovered in a raid as well as 31 rounds of live ammunition.

Police recently arrested five men for possession of unlicensed firearms in two separate incidents.

Last week, Msinsini police conducted a raid in the Nyavini area where four men, aged between 24 and 29, were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and the pointing of firearms.

According to police, three 9mm guns, one shotgun and one rifle, were recovered in the raid, as well as 31 rounds of live ammunition.

The four men appeared in the Umzumbe Magistrate’s Court last Friday and remain in custody.

In the second incident, a 31-year-old man was arrested by Port Shepstone police in the Skogheim area near Izotsha last Friday for possession of an unlicensed firearm and five rounds of live ammunition, which he claimed belonged to a deceased relative.

He will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon.

The public is urged to report illegal firearms and ammunition to the police.

Police also recovered live ammunition.
