Political regalia dominates government event

The KZN MEC for Sports, Arts, and Culture, Ntuthuko Mahlaba, said people wearing ANC regalia at a government event was proof that the ANC is a preferred party in Umdoni Municipality.

The KZN MEC for Sports, Arts and Culture, Ntuthuko Mahlaba, said there was nothing wrong with Umdoni residents attending a government event wearing ANC regalia.

Mahlaba, also wearing his ANC regalia, spoke at Ingoma yaseMdoni in Umzinto recently..

He was accompanied by the Mayor of Ugu District Municipality, Sikhumbuzo Mqadi, and the Speaker of Umdoni Municipality, Mthandeni Mbutho, who were also in full ANC regalia.

Several Umdoni residents who were in attendance wore ANC T-shirts.

Mahlaba said people were invited to the event, and they decided what to wear on their own.

He said seeing people in ANC regalia at Ingoma yaseMdoni was beautiful and fun.

“This shows people cannot wait to go to the polls on May 29. They are saying that they still have faith in the ANC government, they still love it, and they will continue voting for it,” he said.

Speaking about Ingoma yaseMdoni, Mahlaba said they decided to create a platform where artists can show off their talents so that they can select a few to empower.

He said the selected few will be given bigger platforms to work on their crafts and be given opportunities to record their music without reaching into their own pockets.

He added that as part of Ingoma yaseMdoni, they handed over equipment that will benefit the cultural and creative sector in the Ugu District.

The MEC said Ingoma yaseMdoni is an annual programme, saying that it is part of their Sukuma Sambe initiative, where they travel around the province with the intention of discovering talent.

“The most important thing to do as government is to help. There are resources that we will provide as a government. These include various sporting equipment and other resources for artists so that the local people are also encouraged to work on their skills and also showcase them,” he said.

Mahlaba added that once resources are handed over, follow-ups are done to see whether they are being used appropriately.
