Tweni wins inter-club tennis tourney

Tweni tennis club was the overall winners of the day.

An annual inter-club tournament between two of the oldest South Coast tennis clubs, Umtentweni and Uvongo, was a success atTweni recently.

The teams comprised of eight players each.

Tweni: mixed doubles – Liesl Smith, Natasha Cotterell, Chris Connelan (chairperson) and Foxy Norton (treasurer); men’s doubles – Trevor and Darrel Pillay; and veterans – Raj Naganna and Colin Barker.

Uvongo: mixed doubles – Maureen Kretchmar, former Springbok badminton player Deirdre Algie, Ralph Burls (88), who represented SA in his younger days in the world championships on many occasions, and Ken Coleman (chairperson); men’s doubles – Alan Collocott from Southbroom, Johan van Niekerk, Duncan Biggar and Nigel Wareing.

The day concluded in good sportsmanship, with Tweni declared the winner on 24 points and received the Kisten Moodley family floating trophy.

The clubs look forward to the event being a regular one.
