NPO equips students with practical skills
The month long training courses included computer literacy, sewing, welding, beading and food technology.
About 28 students from the South Coast attended an Amakhono Okuphila Skills 4 Life NPO programme at CFC Ministries in Marina Beach near Southbroom recently.
The one-month training courses included computer literacy, sewing, welding, beading and food technology.
The NPO’s Kevin Proctor said they run different skills courses and that their students choose one course. “We run practical skills courses as well as offer life skills training. We offer welding, food technology, sewing, basic computer literacy and beading. All these courses run together, and students attend their respective classes,” he said.
Five students undertook welding and nine basic computer literacy courses. “Six students completed a food technology course, and five students did sewing. Three students did beading, and they were all offered life skills training,” said Proctor.
He said that the students learned with great passion, enjoyed the courses and completed their training.
“This team of students graduated last Friday, and the next intake of students will be in October. People talk about our courses in the community, and they refer each other to us. Sometimes, we promote our courses on social media,” said Proctor.
