Street soccer unites communities
The winning team, Everton FC walked away with R1 500 and Black Spurs bagged R500.
The Everton FC defeated Black Spurs FC during the Kasified Street Soccer tournament in Gamalakhe recently.
The tournament kicked off on June 25 and ended on June 28.
According to the organisers, 20 teams participated, with the teams divided into five groups, with four teams in each group.
They said the idea for the tournament came about after people were seen playing soccer on the various streets of Gamalakhe.
“We noticed many people playing soccer in their sections in Gamalakhe, and we decided on a tournament to see which section would win if they competed against each other. We also wanted to keep people active and together during these school holidays. So, we published a post on social media, calling for teams to participate.” said the organisers, adding that they want to host this tournament every school holiday.
Many people braved the heat to watch the street soccer tournament at eBar Endala.
