Track Torque: Brit wins for the British
The quality of the driving was exceptional.
Lewis Hamilton gave and produced some of his very best in front of his home crowd last Sunday.
Under changeable conditions of wet and dry, he drove a superlative race to win the British Grand Prix at Silverstone despite a certain Flying Dutchman hot on his heels.
Max Verstappen also produced a stupendous effort and finished an exciting race a mere 1.5 seconds behind Hamilton.
It really was a great race, with the lead changing several times.
Spare a thought for poor ol’ George Russell, who initially had a good lead before the cooling system in his car gave up, and he was out of the race.
Lando Norris was at his British best in the first of the McLarens to claim third place, with teammate Oscar Piastri five seconds behind him in fourth position.
The quality of the driving was exceptional, right up to 12th position, with Hamilton only lapping drivers 13 and down.
Carlos Sainz gave a fighting display, finishing fifth in the only ‘pure’ Ferrari, with Nico Hulkenberg in the Haas Ferrari placing sixth.
Hulkenberg has been on top form recently, which augurs well for next year’s drive in the works Audi. Can anybody guess who his teammate will be?
The two Aston Martins were piloted in reverse order to the norm as Lance Stroll led senior man Fernando Alonso to seventh and eighth places, respectively.
Alex Albon peddled his Williams very effectively as usual, and Yuki Tsunoda managed to pip Logan Sargeant to tenth place, with the American doing much better than expected.
The wet and dry race gave spectators great entertainment at this marvellous venue, enhancing the spectacle for everyone.
And yes, I did sing God Save the King at the end!
