Teacher launches illustrated children’s book
Currently teaching overseas, Natrisha Naidoo was born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal.
Author Natrisha Naidoo recently launched her second illustrated children’s book, ‘Jinky gets a scare’.
The book, published by Naidoo, was laid out by Kim of Tango.
Her debut children’s storybook was ‘Oopsie Whoopsie, Clumsy Lucie’.
Illustrated by Michaela Pavelescu, ‘Jinky gets a scare’ is about a little boy with a few bad habits.
Jinky finally learns a valuable lesson on the need to be mindful of his cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Currently teaching overseas, Natrisha was born and raised in KwaZulu-Natal.
“My inspiration comes from my joyful interactions with young pupils at schools I have taught in South Africa and abroad. All children have a love for storybooks. As a teacher, I love for my students to be excited and passionate about books and knowledge. I love working with children. They provide me with such stimulating conversations. Their thirst for knowledge and storytelling inspires me,” she said.
Working with children from diverse backgrounds has given Naidoo widespread exposure to different nationalities, cultures and language groups across the globe.
In the classroom, she uses dramatic tones and different voices for characters in the stories she reads to the children, which she found to be effective ways of enhancing their learning experiences.
Naidoo’s love for literature also began early in life.
“As a child, I loved Enid Blyton’s books. She is brilliant at taking her reader to magical places. It felt like I was having adventures alongside the characters in her books.”
When she’s not writing books or teaching, Naidoo is travelling.
She also lists reading, baking, visiting the beach and listening to music as her hobbies.
