Young model scoops national title
He has collected 22 titles since he started modelling five years ago.
Ten-year-old Siphesihle Shelembe is a national model king after he recently won the King of Mr World Radiance South Africa 2024, held in eMalahleni in Mpumalanga.
Siphesihle, who is a Grade 5 learner at Pennington Primary, is from Koelwater in Mtwalume.
According to his mother, Cindy Shabane, winning titles is nothing new to Siphesihle. He has collected 22 titles since he started modelling five years ago.
She said her son was the youngest competitor and was teased about his age by his fellow competitors, who claimed they couldn’t compete with a child.
“Siphesihle’s response was simple. He said I respect you, but I am not scared to compete, and he smiled. He competed without pressure because he was taken lightly due to his age. I had confidence that he may cause upset and scoop the title,” she said.
She said when Siphesihle was announced the winner, tears of joy rolled down her cheeks. To spice up his victory, Siphesihle also won the best interview category.
The youngster has also appeared in a Toughees advertisement during a back-to-school campaign.
