Bank card fraud warning
A substantial amount of money had been taken from a woman's account.
A case of fraud has been opened for investigation at Southport Saps after a 79-year-old woman went shopping last Wednesday, and her bank card declined payments.
An attempt to withdraw cash was also unsuccessful. On making enquiries with her bank, she was informed that cash had been withdrawn at a shopping centre the day before.
A substantial amount of money had been taken from the woman’s account.
Police have warned the public to keep bank cards safe and not to disclose PIN details to anyone.
* It is advisable to have a responsible and trustworthy relative accompany the elderly when out shopping.
* Criminals prey on easy targets.
* Be especially careful in supermarkets and busy chain stores where you can be easily pickpocketed.
* Do not ask for help from strangers at ATMs.
* Always cover your PIN even if you are alone at the ATM.
* Be cautious of notifications that you have won a competition if you did not enter.
* Do not respond with any personal information.
