Development soccer league shines
League committee members are seeking sponsorships to get more teams to join.
The Port Shepstone Development League, consisting of U19 soccer players, enjoyed an awesome tournament last month.
As the new kids on the block, the league saw 10 teams participate in matches at the Marburg Sports Grounds on Saturdays.
David Shinaisi, a committee member of the league and owner of MSM Football Club, said the aim of the tournament was to try and recruit more teams to join.
“We want to revive soccer among the youth on the South Coast. There is talent out there, and we are going to assist to bring out these soccer stars.”
He added that some of the teams had financial challenges and were unable to return for a new season, however, he hopes through sponsorships, the teams can make a comeback.
The winner of the tournament was MSM Football Club, which won on penalties against PSG.
According to Shinaisi, they still have spots for other interested teams to join in. The committee is also looking for sponsorships to help them continue with the development league. Contact David on 072 0181939.
