Some 53 young beneficiaries from different backgrounds have received essential tools to launch their own businesses.
This after the MEC for Department of Social Development, Mbali Shinga, presented start-up kits at Tolomane Mnyayiza Youth Development Centre in Boboyi last Thursday.

Shinga said that this marks a crucial investment in the future of the youth in the Ugu District, with these young entrepreneurs being graduates in plumbing, culinary arts and clothing manufacturing.
“They embody the hope and potential of our community. Many come from vulnerable backgrounds, having faced legal troubles or challenges in treatment centres. By specifically targeting youth in high-unemployment areas, we acknowledge the unique obstacles they face and take tangible steps to address them.”
She emphasised the significance of this programme, stating that these young people are not just recipients of start-up kits; they are future entrepreneurs.
“This sentiment captures our goal to encourage a generation capable of changing their lives and uplifting their communities. However, the responsibility does not rest solely on the government or organisations. Local businesses and community members must also play an active role in supporting these young entrepreneurs.”
Hospitality student Neliswa Zulu from Harding said she was excited as the kits given to them would help them with her businesses.
“We won’t have to go to the banks and take a loan to start a business.”
Plumbing student Lizwi Mnyayiza from Lusikisi said this will help them without having to start from the bottom.
“There are no job opportunities, but we will be able to work for ourselves and not depend on a job or suffer while trying to get a job.”
Mnyayiza said he plans on one day owning his own company where he will be able to employ people.
