Foundation helps Mtwalume families heal

A monument will soon be erected in Mtwalume in memory of victims of crime.

Reverend Mafungwase Nomfundo Mbili of Girls Glove Up, a non-profit foundation, says she found herself in Mtwalume after Snethemba Mqadi from Murchison, who has been missing, was last seen in the area but has never been found.

She says Mqadi’s parents are members of her church, and they have prayed to God to bring him back.

Mbili has searched for families whose loved ones have been murdered, kidnapped or raped, as well as survivors.

Her foundation plans to build the monument in memory of all those who have lost their lives.

She envisages it being a big ceremony as she also intends to invite the Zulu Monarch, Inkosi MisuZulu.

Mbili says that currently, the foundation is busy with build-up campaigns and also trying to help families and survivors heal.

“I knew bad things were happening in Mtwalume, as I have seen it on TV and in newspapers since 2020.”

Mbili says she has been involved in helping the families of victims and praying for them.

So far, she says they have reached out to 100 community members who were affected, and out of that, 37 families’ loved ones were either murdered or kidnapped.

“We are not here to fight or to find out who did what; our focus is to help people heal from their tragedy. People were abused, hurt and traumatised, but we need to give them hope and encourage them that life goes on.”

She says survivors and families need to heal physically and emotionally so that they can also be mentally fit.

“We also help children with the assistance of two psychologists that we work with. When things get too much for me, I refer them (the children), and they always know how to deal with matters.”

“Our foundation started working with people just in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, but we have now grown and work in the entire Ugu District.”

She says that they have started a petition to fight against child abuse and the murder of children.
