‘Work and play’ finals promotes healthy living
It is also to promote good working relations.
Employees under Harry Gwala District Municipality battled it out on the field during a ‘work and play’ soccer tournament held at Murray Park Stadium in Kokstad.
The Department of Correctional Services emerged as the victors of the tournament after defeating Doctor Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality 2-1 in a tightly contested final.
Employees over the age of 40 enjoyed ‘work and play’ time designed to promote a healthy lifestyle within the workforces of various institutions. Some people in this age group are suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, and to avert these, they should immerse themselves in sports.
Also, the event promoted good working relations between government departments and those from local government spheres.
Nsizwa Mthombeni, team manager from the Department of Correctional Services, applauded the support they get from their stakeholders.
“Without their support, these games can’t be successful. They always sponsor us with kits, medals and cups,” said Mthombeni.
