New senior managers for Umdoni
The mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli said Umdoni Municipality was recently in the spotlight due to the 'substandard' delivery of refuse collection services.
Nhlakanipho Khumalo was recently appointed as the acting municipal manager at Umdoni Municipality.
This was revealed by Umdoni mayor Mbali Cele-Luthuli during a media briefing at the Umdoni Council Chambers on Tuesday last week.
The municipality also appointed Bongani Ntsebeshe as the new acting general manager for community services, Thando Mketsu as the acting CFO and Khongi Mohlolonyane as the acting general manager for corporate services.
“We are proud that we have efficiently acted on the appointment of senior managers without delays. It was our responsibility as council guided by the experts placed in our institution to assist us in ensuring that all departments deliver on their duties under the guidance of qualified heads of departments who also possess a wealth of experience in local government,” said Cele-Luthuli.
She added that the council was proud of the appointments.
Cele-Luthuli said the municipality was recently in the spotlight due to the ‘substandard’ delivery of refuse collection services.
The mayor said they have acted to ensure the improvement of these services both in the rural and urban areas. Although issues around refuse collection cannot be solved overnight, numerous efforts are being implemented to ensure its improvement.
She said the municipality recently procured two skip loaders to beef up resources in the waste collection section.
“Refuse collection is among areas of priority, and plans are in place to significantly improve these services by beefing up its resources. We plead with the community to be patient while we ensure that waste collection services are implemented to the satisfaction of residents and businesses,” she said.
Meanwhile, Cele-Luthuli said service delivery projects authorised for the current financial year are underway.
She said during the mayoral izimbizos currently taking place, they handed over the KwaMpondo Sportfield in Ward 1 and Mandlalathi Community Hall in Ward 2.
“Furthermore, we have marked the commencement of major infrastructure development projects in Wards 16, 9 and 5. These include the Mafithini Road construction project, Nsongeni Road construction project and the refurbishment of KwaDumisa Skills Centre and Community Hall,” she said.
