EFF suspends councillors (3) in RNM

The EFF recently suspended three of its councillors in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) allegedly due to unethical behaviour.

Proportional Representative councillors Noxolo Mqadi, Nomzamo Ndovela and Cynthia Hadebe were suspended after facing the EFF’s national disciplinary committee two weeks ago.

Mqadi is the party’s chief whip in RNM.

The party’s provincial spokesperson, Mazwi Blose, told Fever that the councillors were suspended after allegedly opening an account to receive money from RNM meant for the political party.

He explained financial assistance is given to political parties represented nationally or locally in councils to enable them to perform their functions.

Blose said the three councillors allegedly used the political party’s administration allowance from the municipality for their reasons.

“It came to our attention that these councillors opened an account where funds meant for the party were deposited in a bank account unbeknown to the party. Last week, they were called before the national disciplinary committee and they were suspended pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.

He added that he was unaware of the amount that was allegedly taken by the councillors.

According to sources who did not wish to be named, the party became aware of the issue after another EFF PR councillor in RNM started questioning the whereabouts of the funds allocated to the party by the municipality.

When the Fever reached out to the three councillors, comments from Mqadi and Ndovela were not received at the time of going to press.

However, Hadebe told Fever that she would not be commenting, adding that the publication must speak to Blose.

RNM spokesperson Simon April said the municipality has not received correspondence regarding the alleged suspension.

However, Blose said RNM is unaware at this stage because letters are yet to be sent to the municipality and councillors.
