Awards for youth rugby players
It's been a cracking year for the local rugby club.
Various members of the South Coast Warriors Rugby Club youth section received recognition at the DRSU prizegiving in Durban last Friday for their efforts during this year’s rugby season.
They were up against players from areas including Richards Bay to Eshowe, Pietermaritzburg to Kokstad and, of course, locally, all the way along the coast to Port Edward.
“It’s a big area, so for our players to come in the top three is an awesome achievement,” said Warriors’ youth rugby coordinator Shannon Potgieter.

Wihan Holtzhausen was named the U7 player of the year.
Tiaan Labuschagne was placed second in most tries scored in the U13 age group.
Aiden du Plooy (U15) received an award for second most tries and was named the U14 KZN Duikers Invitational Player of the Week.
Jaydon Koekemoer shared first place for most conversions kicked in the U12/U13 age group.

South Coast Warriors received the Club of the Year trophy, a huge honour.
Two U18 players were selected for the U18 Dream Team at IPTs in September, namely Preston Nichols and Keagen van der Bergh.
“We’ve had a fantastic year of youth rugby and can’t wait for next year. We’ve already had parents asking when we start again,” said Shannon.
“Watching the boys grow on and off the field has been most heartwarming. Our young rugby ‘sons’ have made us proud.”
