Graduates urged to choose friends wisely

Grade 7s were advised to remain focused and disciplined at their new high schools and to continue their good culture of learning.

Choosing the right peers in high school will go a long way in benefitting learners who graduated from primary school this year.

This was one of the key messages conveyed by the former principal of Oxolweni Primary, Sbonokuhle Cele, at the school’s Grade 7 farewell function held at the Oceanic Restaurant and Lounge at Port Shepstone beachfront recently.

The school, which is in St Faiths, from the area of iNkosi Dlamini, bid farewell to Grade R and Grade 7 learners.

Cele was invited to convey a message of support. “Grade 7 learners, you were seniors to Grade Rs, but you are going to different high schools, and you will become juniors. You will make new friends; please choose the right type of friends to achieve your educational ambitions. The wrong friends will lead you to bunk school, get involved in drugs and other social ills.”

He advised the Grade 7s to remain focused and disciplined at their new high schools and to continue their good culture of learning.

“You were a good example to Grade Rs and continue to be a good example to other learners from Oxolweni Primary. Please represent your school well. Be careful of peers who can mislead you to doing wrong things and distract you from focusing on your education.”

The principal, NS Cindi, congratulated learners who have graduated to higher grades.

“Grade 7s, you have passed to Grade 8, and we are bidding farewell to you, and Grade R, you have moved to Grade 1. Well done to all of you, and represent us well in your new levels of education,” said Cindi.
