Football association’s league a success
The Gamalakhe Football Association recently coughed up R2 500 for grass to be cut at the Bambayi Sportsfield that they are now not allowed to use.
A number of goals were scored between the various teams at the Makhulukhulu Protection Gamalakhe Football League games at the Bambayi Sportsfield in Gamalakhe last weekend.
In a thriller match between Sunshine and Makoya, the score was 8-1.
It was a 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Campus.
Juventus beat Mthini 7-2, and Gamalakhe Arsenal won against Gamalakhe United with a 6-2 score.
Although the games were a success, the ongoing Ray Nkonyeni Municipality labour strike has also affected the sport.
Mpume Mbono of the Gamalakhe Football Association said they recently had to cough up R2 500 for grass to be cut at the Bambayi Sportsfield in Gamalakhe under Ward 27.
He said grass had been overgrown for weeks because of the municipal strike.
Mbono added that it was disheartening to hear that after struggling to raise money to cut the grass, they were told they couldn’t use the sportsfield anymore as a tent for a funeral would be erected there soon.
“Now, we don’t have money to cut the overgrown grass at the TB Molefe Stadium as we used up the money as we had to hire someone to clean the Bambayi Sportsfield. We now have to raise another R2 500. We plead with anyone who can assist us in cutting the grass so that we can continue with football club development,” he said.
