Improved audit outcome for Ugu
South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise also received an unqualified audit opinion.
Ugu District Municipality said it recently received an unqualified audit opinion for the 2023/24 financial year.
The municipality said this was an improved audit outcome.
In a statement, Ugu municipal spokesperson France Zama said the auditor general of South Africa presented the audit outcome before the council last week.
“This audit outcome comes at a period where the municipality was tirelessly working towards achieving a clean audit opinion for the year under review. The report also found that the municipal entity, South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise, also received an unqualified audit opinion. These improved audit outcomes can be attributed to the resilient character of the municipal leadership, which despite all detractors succeeded in implementing stringent measures to deliver an improved audit outcome,” he said.
According to Zama, having noted the auditor general’s presentation, the leadership of the municipality reaffirmed its commitment to continue improving the quality of audit outcomes for the next financial year.
Accepting the audit outcome on behalf of the council, Ugu mayor Sikhumbuzo Mqadi said they recognise and support the work of the Chapter 9 institutions, such as the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA), in strengthening good practices through the execution of the important task of oversight, accountability, and good governance.
“It is through institutions like AGSA that the municipality can measure and reflect on its efforts of improving the lives of communities it serves,” said Mqadi.
