Newcomers impress in football derby

The win took Madiba to fifth spot on the log.

No less than three football derbies were played in the South Stream of the SAFA Hollywoodbets Regional League last Sunday.

Madiba FC played against MSM United at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre in Gamalakhe. As the new boys in the league, and having been promoted last season, Madiba FC collected maximum points after edging their opponents 3-2.

The win took Madiba to fifth spot on the log. They played five games, won two, drew two and lost one. So far, their performance is impressive for newcomers who have collected eight points out of a possible 15.

On the other hand, the loss moved MSM to seventh spot with the same number of matches played, with one win, one draw and three losses. They have collected only four points out of a possible 15, not a good start.

Meanwhile, the Gamalakhe derby between Gamalakhe Warriors and Esayidi TVET College Gamalakhe Campus produced no winner. The match ended 1-1, with both goals scored via penalties.

The third derby comprised teams from Ezingolweni, which favoured Shobeni United, which won 2-0 against neighbours Liverpool FC. In other matches, Golden City Warriors played 2-2 against PSG, Panthers lost 2-1 to Reserve FC.

In the North Stream, Umzinto United continued to maintain a top-of-the-log spot after a 2-0 victory over Shayamoya. Newcomers Lamina United won 2-0 against Amahlongwa Waves, Umkomaas FC won 4-1 against Brothers FC, Scottburgh won 2-0 against Dumisa United, and Turton United won 3-0 against XI Experience.
