Politicians attend induction workshop

The workshop was for ANC members of the Provincial Legislature, chief whips, speakers, and mayors of the district municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Local mayors and politicians such as Sikhumbuzo Mqadi (Ugu), Ravi Pillay, Bongani Nyuswa (Umzumbe), and Sizwe Ngcobo were spotted at a political induction workshop at the ANC provincial offices in Durban recently.

They attended a two-day foundation course on Political Education facilitated by David Makhura, the head of the OR Tambo School of Leadership.

The workshop was for ANC members of the Provincial Legislature, chief whips, speakers, and mayors of the district municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Presentations were made by ANC National Executive Committee members Beatie Hofmeyer, Ntsundu Besani, Jenny Schreiner, Ntakuseni Razwiedani, Dickson Masemola, Steve Letsike, and Donald Selamolela.
ANC veteran Mac Maharaj led a discussion on constitutionality, the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), and the history of the ANC, providing insights to guide organisational and political work.

ANC Provincial Task Team (PTT) coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu said the induction programme was aimed at strengthening leadership and reaffirming the movement’s core values.

“When we unveiled our programme of action, we committed to advancing renewal among our leaders through targeted capacity-building initiatives as a priority. The induction programme sought to re-centre ANC leaders on the mandate, values, and tasks of the ANC,” said Mabuyakhulu.

He said the induction programme focused on the principles of unity, accountability, people-centred leadership, and the foundation of the ANC’s renewal and rebuilding efforts.

Mabuyakhulu said the principles are non-negotiable in ensuring that the ANC remains a trusted vehicle for transformation, service delivery, and social justice.

The provincial coordinator urged ANC members to remain rooted in humility and respect for the people, always prioritising the needs of communities over personal interests.

He said the ANC must be a listening and responsive organisation.

“Leaders should not isolate themselves from the masses but work alongside them to resolve pressing societal challenges. The ANC will rise again in KwaZulu-Natal to lead on its own. The ANC remains steadfast in its mission to reclaim people’s confidence,” he said.

He added that the Programme of Action will continue to strengthen the organisation through direct engagement, service delivery, and leadership accountability.

“We will take a deliberately nuanced approach in rebuilding our regional structure, including deciding on the strategy to deal with regional conferences. At the heart of this approach will be uniformity and transparency,” said Mabuyakhulu.
