SRC elections: EFF Youth Command loses Esayidi Gamalakhe Campus

The EFFYC said there was no time to mourn in the revolution, saying they needed to go back to mobilize and come back stronger.

The Economic Freedom Fighters Youth Command (EFFYC) lost the Esayidi TVET College Gamalakhe Campus to the South African Students Congress (SASCO) at the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections last Thursday.

The EFFYC had led the Gamalakhe Campus SRC for three years.

In a statement, the youth command described the elections as well-run, with a transparent and fair process.

“To fighters of Gamalakhe Campus, ours now is to accept defeat and allow to be led. We need to go back to the drawing board and not abandon the generational mission of economic freedom in our lifetime that includes free, quality and well-resourced education. To the students who voted for the EFFYC – thank you. Fighters, we fought a good fight, but conditions were not favourable for us. However, there is no time to mourn in the revolution. Ours is to go back to mobilise, organise and come back stronger. We have done it before; we can do it again.”

The statement further read: “To our SRC candidates, thank you, comrades, for availing yourselves to represent this glorious movement. It is not your fault; it is a minor setback which must be rectified. Never stop assisting and being the voice for neglected and marginalised students. They will need us now more than ever. We must always be ready to fight for them at any time.”

The youth command also thanked councillors and members of the EFF who assisted in campaigning.

“We remain proud members of the EFF and EFFYC, we shall fight until the bitter end. To the former leaders, we did not play our part at all; we left a big gap between us and the previous leadership. Let us regroup comrades; all is not lost. We must do what we did last time. We shall come back stronger,” said the youth command.
