Man jailed for beating woman to death
Detective Constable Philani Hadebe was praised for his work on the case.
The war against gender-based violence in the Ugu District is steadily advancing.
This is evident by a 20 year-sentence meted out in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on March 24.
Nkosingiphile Shozi (27) was convicted of the murder of his girlfriend after he assaulted her with a wooden stick at Kwa Ganyaza in Boboyi on December 24 during an argument.
The woman suffered multiple blunt force injuries and was declared dead by emergency services.
Shozi was arrested immediately and appeared several times in the Port Shepstone Regional Court. He pleaded guilty to the murder and was convicted in the Pietermaritzburg High Court.
Ugu District Detective Commander Brigadier Bongani Sibiya is pleased with the sentence and has expressed confidence in the judicial system to always mete out the deserved sentence on perpetrators of acts of violence against women.
He further congratulated Detective Constable Philani Hadebe of Port Shepstone Detective Service for a faultless investigation which contributed to the lengthy sentence.
