EFF replaces councillors in RNM

The EFF said it wished the newly sworn-in councillors well in their new responsibilities.

The EFF recently filled its vacant seats in the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) council after it suspended three of its councillors.

Khethiwe Muthwa, Nkosivumile Mdodana and Anelisa Gege were sworn in as EFF Proportional Representative (PR) councillors on Tuesday this week during an ordinary council meeting.

The three seats became vacant after PR councillors Noxolo Mqadi, Nomzamo Ndovela and Cynthia Hadebe were suspended due to alleged unethical behaviour.

Their suspension came after they faced the EFF’s national disciplinary committee.

Mqadi was the party’s chief whip in RNM.

The party’s provincial spokesperson, Mazwi Blose, said the councillors were suspended after allegedly opening an account to receive money from RNM meant for the political party.

He explained that financial assistance was given to political parties represented nationally or locally in councils to enable them to perform their functions.

Blose said the suspended councillors allegedly used the political party’s administration allowance from the municipality for their own reasons.

“It came to our attention that these councillors opened an account where funds meant for the party were deposited in a bank account unbeknown to the party. They were called before the national disciplinary committee and were suspended,” he said, adding that they were unaware of the amount that was allegedly taken by the councillors.

Speaking of the newly sworn-in EFF councillors, the party said: “We wish them well in their new responsibilities, and we trust that they will make meaningful contributions.”
